Colour Isolation - Technical Difficulties:
During our planning stage of our film opening, we all decided that we would put a black and white filter onto our movie, to inference the era. Then, I had an idea of making the ruby ring show its colour; using the method of colour splash. From my previous posts, you can see it my inspiration is from the 1993 picture, Schindler's List. In the 3 hour moving-picture, only four colour images were shown, being the girl in the red coat.
This is when I had the brilliant idea of using this technique in our opening; so the ruby ring would be our key signifier, with its blood-red colour symbolising passion and lust, also foreshadowing the female protagonist's death.
Bella then suggested a program she knew of that would master the colour isolation. She also said when it came to filming we would have to make sure that nothing else in the frame could show any redness, otherwise the computer programme would identify the pixels and the whole effect would not work.
However, when Bella came to creating the red colour isolation in post production, the programme was doing exactly what she predicted. It was picking up the redness in our actress' hands. Unfortunately, after Bella spending time trying to rectify the situation, it has not worked; meaning we won't be able to use colour isolation in our opening. This was such a shame because that played a key part in our film opening. However, we can learn from this, maybe not to be too ambitious with complex editing methods.
